Swimming is often a life skill that is taken for granted. A skill that should be taught and developed to ensure water safety and awareness. Globally, drowning has been responsible for over 2.5million preventable deaths in the past 10 years. In the Western Cape around 200 lose their lives due to drowning each year, of whom 40% are children. The Spirit Education Foundation held a learn to swim programme in December along with Waterborne Swimming School in Bergvliet. The learners had fun developing confidence and overcoming some of their fears of water. We look forward to hosting the second phase of this project in the March school holidays.
